A Julian Assange interview with RTS and the Swiss Press, February 2015
Transcript:
A: It’s been quite a lot of change in five years, putting it mildly. For WikiLeaks the organisation, extremely interesting period […] a lot to be proud of. We’ve managed to survive a quite serious battle with the United States, over our publications, and for me personally […] I’ve been detained now for almost five years in the United Kingdom without charge, and that’s been difficult period for me and my family. On the other hand, my work continues and WikiLeaks as an organisation continues.
A: It’s quite a surreal situation. There is various types of Lamborghinies, that occasionally go past with this new rich Arab class that lives in this part of London, even there are Felt, black felt Lamborghinies, gold Lamborghinies etc. But more, the biggest issue for us, is the surveillance of this embassy. The UK admits to spending more than £10 million now just on the police surveillance.
A: This one is occurring right now, yes most probably, we do see that there are surveillance teams in the buildings opposite, interestingly, you spoke about Harrods. Harrods is working in collaboration with the British survellance effort, where we have not only seen that personally, because we know, we can see [pointing] this building, that one there is owned by Harrods, that one there is owned by Harrods, but we managed to legally get out documentation from within Harrods proving this use of the Harrods buildings by the surveillance effort against this Embassy.
A: Let’s not think about that, but even getting doctors in is quite a difficult thing, and dentists, because they say their insurance does not cover Ecuador, if they are British doctors.
A: I think an arrangement with United States, if Hilary gets in, is quite unlikely. Hilary was Secretary of State during our big conflict and I think the US will probably thry to keep things going forever. That’s said we can, you know, increase the political cost for continuing on the investigation, but it’s in their nature to look like they never lose, similarly, here in the UK it’s going to require some kind of technical mechanism to avoid… saving face.
A: T Think there’d be change for everyone in a way that won’t be positive, having dealt with Hilary extensively. She is, you know, quite a hawkish, even a very hawkish figure, but, she is from the Democratic Party, so, she would eliminate the opposition that you would normally see in a Democratic party to a Republican figure as president, and so, that means there would be very little restraints in relation to the American adventurism that we’ve seen even in the last eight years under Obama.
A: It is something that is difficult for me. It is something that is much more difficult for my children and family members. In some ways, one must, if you believe in something, and you want to see it occur, you have to pay a price, just like if you want to buy a house, you have to pay a price, similarly, in political philosophy you must pay prices if you believe in something.
A: We live in a modern system. It is possible depending on the shifts in the US politics that I would be sentenced to death, probably not, but that does not mean there is a risk of a sort of living death. In the United States there is something called SAMS [Special Administrative Measures] and for National Security cases, they put people in SAMS restrictions which is, you are incommunicado detention. So even if you communicate something to the public through your lawyer the lawyer goes to prison and this has happened in the United States.
A: Of course one dreams about these kinds of things…you can make bets, like there is a betting agency… you can make bets whether I am going to leave in a helicopter or a tunnel or a car but actually we were joking about this, we should make some kind of investment fund cause if we can know how I will leave then we can rig the bet.

No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.
When Magna Carta principles fail……………….
Then there is Asylum
But BBC4 in ‘Taking Liberties’ season celebrating 800 years of Magna Carta is choosing to produce a satire called ‘Asylum’.
Written by a man who tweets:
So it seems at the BBC when Magna Carta fails then, there is ‘Asylum’. But, alas, no hope for the persecuted but ridicule. There is clear perversion in the meaning of words and the values reflected at this state broadcast.
Maybe there are times when satire is not satire, it’s propaganda.
In the UK, £10 million is wasted on an expensive Metropolitan Police Embassy stakeout which is ludicrous. The UK is already in contempt of International Law on Non-refoulement (which forbids the rendering of a true victim of persecution to their persecutor) by not granting Safe Passage to Ecuador for Julian Assange.
Instead the UK wants to send him to Sweden on the pretext of questioning on allegations, when a visit by the Swedish Prosecutor towards that end would suffice to progress the case.
Sweden on the other hand has just changed its Constitution to allow it to extradite publishers who reveal Sweden’s Military partners war crimes. Let’s not forget Sweden has assisted the US war effort in Afghanistan.

UK’s Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg (LBC Radio Thursday 5th Feb 2015) :
“Imagine the frustration of the Swedish government – hardly an illiberal rogue state. This is a country of impeccable democratic credentials with a well-respected judicial system”
But Sweden’s representatives believe in indefinite detention of uncharged suspects, hardly a liberal approach to administering justice, neither very democratic if you ask me. Unless of course, Justice and Democracy excludes all those who are called Julian Assange:
At the end of the Universal Periodic Review the head of the Swedish delegation to the UPR, Annika Söder, state secretary for political affairs at Sweden’s foreign ministry, said that:
Annika Söder: We find this exercise extremely useful, and we will bring all the conversations back home to see how we can improve, I think I will stop there and ask if there are any questions
Question: What is the government doing to resolve the situation of Julian Assange?
Annika Söder: This is a very complex matter in which the government can only do a few things. We are aware of Mr. Assange’s being in the embassy of Ecuador and we hope that there will be ways to deal with the legal process in one way or the other. But this is up to the legal authorities to respond.”
Question: Is there any deadline for the prosecution?
Annika Söder: Now you are asking somebody that is not completely updated on deadlines, no, my colleagues are saying no, there is no deadline.
Sarah Harrison of WikiLeaks then approached Anders Rönquist, The director-general of legal affairs in Sweden’s foreign ministry, for some questions:
Anders Rönquist: […] a possibility to have a person who is suspected of crimes to have that person detained until the charges have been made and he is facing the court.
Sarah Harrison: and there is no limit on the time you can detain somebody without those charges
Anders Rönquist: No there is no limit
Sarah Harrison: and that’s ok in a human rights aspect?
Anders Rönquist: Yeah, yes it is.
Sarah Harrison: To detain somebody indefinitely before you charge them?
Anders Rönquist: Not more time than it is necessary for, to have established the facts.
Sarah Harrison: You don’t have a limitation on that…time to..
Anders Rönquist: No we don’t, no, and there is no obligation under Human Rights Law to fixed maximum length of detainment.
Sarah Harrison: Ok
Anders Rönquist: Ok, Thank you.

Julian Assange was granted asylum by the Republic of Ecuador in August 2012 due to the ongoing attempts by the US government to bring a “conspiracy to commit espionage” prosecution against him over his role as the editor of WikiLeaks. Sweden and the UK continue to obstruct Mr Assange’s asylum.
It has now surfaced that the United States government via the NSA and FBI used ‘conspiracy’ and ‘espionage’ warrants carrying up to 45 years in prison to order Google to release personal communication data of WikiLeaks staffers. Google reports it fought the gagging order imposed on them since early 2011, unsuccessfully. Only a partial lift of this order has allowed Google to communicate in December 2014 to three WL staffers that they complied to such warrants in 2012.
From the WikiLeaks press release on the Warrant to Google:
“Once an offence is alleged in relation to a journalist or their source, the whole media organisation, by the nature of its work flow, can be targeted as alleged ‘conspiracy’. Julian Assange, WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief said: ‘WikiLeaks has out endured everything the Obama administration has thrown at us and we will out endure these latest “offences” too.’
The alleged offences are:
* Espionage: 18 U.S.C. § 793(d) – imprisonment up to 10 years
* Conspiracy to commit espionage: 18 U.S.C. § 793(g) – imprisonment up to 10 years
* The theft or conversion of property belonging to the United States government: 18 U.S.C. § 641 – imprisonment up to 10 years
* Violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act: 18 U.S.C. § 1030 – imprisonment up to 10 years
* (general) Conspiracy: 18 U.S.C. § 371 – imprisonment up to 5 years” -
There is no justice if your name is Assange.
We read today that Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was in a spat with Julian Assange, and could face legal action
It’s not the fist time Mr Clegg, has put his foot in it over the Assange case.
On 19th of June 2014, the second Anniversary of the WikiLeaks founder seeking sanctuary inside the Ecuadorian Embassy, at the same LBC programme, Mr Clegg was clearly surprised to be asked about him and got into a real muddle.
He suggested Julian Assange ‘should be facing justice in his own country’ then proceeded with the proverbial ‘Sweden is not a banana republic’. So he was under the impression Assange was Swedish!!!
Then again he demonstrated his ignorance of the details of the case by saying: ” they will give him a fair trial in line with Swedish law’. He was clearly ignorant of, or chose to ignore that the case is in preliminary investigation stage, he is sought for questioning, there has been no decision by the Swedish judiciary whether to charge him or not, which would determine whether the case went to trial.

Mr Clegg’s disappointed expression whilst listening to a question about Julian Assange He has not learned much during the last six months that have ensued has he? He put his foot into it again saying Assange faced charges in Sweden (09:20 min).
WikiLeaks issued a statement from Julian Assange setting the record straight, protesting at the injustice, invoking Magna Carta and explaining he was seeking legal advice with regards to legal action against Mr Clegg for defamation.
The latter instead of apologising or issuing a correction, which he could have easily done, he instead chose to attack the victim of his error with arrogance and prejudice, calling him self-publicist for protesting his innocence and seeking the protection of the law. This came from a man who holds one of the highest offices in the land, towards a man who is under the protection of political asylum.
It seems there is no justice if your name is Assange.

www.justice4assange.com By the way, if indefinite detention without charge is not characteristic of a banana republic, I don’t know what is. Here is Sarah Harrison of WikiLeaks getting the views of Anders Rönquist, Director-General for Legal Affairs at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs on the matter:
You can listen to the complete 19/06/2014 Q&A with Nick Clegg here at about 32:40 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9t60zVLXjY
Transcript of the Q&A 19/06/2014:
Jim Curran: Good morning Nick, I have a brief request for you. I am requesting you to contact foreign secretary and ask him to ask the Swedish police to come and question Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy or via video link. This would save tax payers an awful lot of money, and free up the police for more important matters.
Nick Ferrari: Today is the second year since Mr Assange sought sanctuary at the embassy. The policing bill, deputy prime minister, is at £6.5 million.
Mr Clegg: Look, I understand people’s frustration about this mounting bill that is landing on our lap. Julian Assange, if I understand correctly, for perfectly good reasons is…should be facing justice in his own home country.
Nick Ferrari: He is frightened he will be abducted or somehow swept off to the US.
Nick Clegg: Look, Sweden is not a banana republic, Sweden as far as I can make out is a pretty civilised country with a pretty sophisticated justice system, I am assuming they will give him a fair trial in line with Swedish law.
Nick Ferrari: What about the idea of a video link or something like that.
Nick Clegg: I have no idea whether that… Jim, I have no idea whether that would work, I am not a Swedish prosecutor but I do accept that the best thing would be for Julian Assange to, basically, put himself into the hands of the Swedish judicial system, not into the hands, if you like, of the British police, the bill of which is footed by the British taxpayer.

Google… as an information pied piper from defence contractor SAIC On September 15, 2014 Julian Assange did an ‘Ask me Anything’ Question and Answer session at Reddit Discussion platform about his book “When Google Met WikiLeaks“.
I submitted a question which received an answer that I share below for the benefit of those politicians, business people as well as consumers of Google products, that are likely to come into contact with this multinational company in Greece.
His book reveals the close relationship between the US government and Google. His answer below leaves no doubt of the dark intentions of the organisation, describing Google reps as an information pied piper from defence contractor SAIC (now Leidos).
