    απο : LaStPuNk

    Πιθανό σενάριο πιστεύω πως είναι το βοήθημα προς την Κύπρο να είναι στην πλειοψηφία από ρωσικά ιδιωτικά κεφάλαια και όχι τόσο κρατικά και φυσικά αντάλλαγμα από πλευράς κράτους για κοιτάσματα αερίου/Πετρελαίου καθώς και στρατιωτική βάση. Πάντως ακούστηκε σαν συμπληρωματικό στο παραπάνω σενάριο να γίνει κούρεμα σε καταθέσεις μόνο Κυπρίων και όχι ξένων καταθετών για εσωτερικό δανεισμό. Το σενάριο της φορολόγησης των καταθέσεων φαινεται πιθανό. Το πρόβλημα θα είναι αν η Ευρώπη αρχίσει να κλείνει σιγά σιγά την κάνουλα της ρευστότητας και των επιχορηγήσεών προ την Κύπρο. Εκεί η Ρωσία θα είναι ικανή να την στηρίξει και με τι ανταλλάγματα;

New World Order βλέπεις για όλον τον κόσμο.

    Β) Δεν μποϊκοτάραμε Γερμανικά, Γαλλικά κτλ κτλ Προϊόντα. Ακόμα ψωνίζουμε στο πχ Lidl , και πολυεθνικές αλυσίδες καταστημάτων. Ψώνισε σκόρδα και φασόλια Κίνας, λεμόνια Αργεντινής, ζυμαρικά Ιταλίας, κρέατα εισαγόμενα κτλ κτλ και συνέχισε έτσι να καταστρέφεις σιγά σιγά ότι έχει μείνει από την ντόπια παραγωγή και βιοτεχνία. Σου έχει κάνει ποτέ εντύπωση το παράδοξο που πας σε παραδοσιακούς ξενώνες και σου σερβίρουν εισαγόμενες μαρμελάδες και βουτηράκια LURPAK;
    Δ) Όταν ανέβηκε το ΦΠΑ, Καθυστέρησή υλοποίησης αναπτυξιακών προγραμμάτων πχ ΕΣΠΑ, αύξηση καυσίμων, την ανακεφαλαίωση των τραπεζών συμπεριλαμβανομένων των ΙΔΙΩΤΙΚΩΝ να την πληρώνει ο φορολογούμενος κτλ κτλ κτλ εσύ πού ήσουνα να αντιδράσεις στους δρόμους με συνεχής και μαζικές κινητοποιήσεις ; Ααααα Ναι για θυμήσου … μήπως ήσουν θεατής – διαμαρτυρόμενος του καναπέ και επαναστάτης -κριτής από την καφετέρια;; Μήπως όταν μπήκε το καλοκαίρι την έκανες για παραλίες, μπαράκια και όλα στα αρχίδια σου παρέα με την ατελείωτη γκρίνια;;;

  • Back in Summer 2012 when Julian Assange walked into the Ecuadorian Embassy requesting Asylum a group of individuals got together on line and in an Ether pad put together the following statement. Some contributed more than others but the result was truly collaborative both in its writing as well as its circulation both on line as well as physically distributed outside the Ecuadorian Embassy. This is an example of what we can do working together to support JA/WL as individuals and we need a space to do it.

Please join in the initiative to form a new space on line for such supportive voices. Add your voice to this creative dialogue now which will help shape this new step forward 🙂

Friends of Wikileaks issue this urgent statement of support for Julian Assange’s request for asylum with the Ecuadorian Embassy.

    Send this letter to: eecugranbretania@mmrree.gob.ec

The context of Julian Assange’s house arrest and, now, extradition to Sweden cannot be disassociated  from the backlash that  been created by his important and radical work with WikiLeaks. There are a numerous inconsistencies in this case that deserve our attention ( www.justice4assange.com). Inconsistencies in due process relating to the issue of the EAW and Red Notice, the release by the Swedish Police of selective witness statements to tabloid press, the re-opening of the case by a second prosecutor in Sweden after a first prosecutor threw the case off, etc etc; all actions that permeate political interference and intent  and which we believe are a reaction against WikiLeaks’ work in promoting transparency and human rights through radical, independent, heroic journalism.

Swedish media are trying to assert that the reason Mr. Assange must be extradited now is because Swedish law dictates that someone must be on Swedish soil in order for formal charges to be laid. But it is also true under Swedish law that a prosecutor cannot take the decision to charge until the preliminary investigation and all questioning therein has been completed. In having already taken the decision to charge Mr. Assange, Marianne Ny is breaking Swedish law. It is intolerable that in a case such as this an investigating prosecutor would decide to charge before even hearing one side’s version of events and is a contradiction of intent on behalf of the investigating prosecutor.

  • Prometheus, steals fire from Zeus and gives it to the “mere mortals” to help them improve their lives, passing on the knowledge of its use . (Check out Wikipedia for the Ancient Greek Myth in its entirety and various versions). Zeus captures the hero/thief ties him naked on a rock, eternal bondage, and sends an eagle to torment him. The eagle eats his liver but the hero is divine and does not die, his liver re-generates daily and he lives on for generations in suffering. Finally Hercules (half god half human) kills the eagle, releases Prometheus from his bondage who then foretells the fall of Zeus.

I can’t get this myth out of my mind since I read about Bradley Manning’s treatment in prison.

I could go on for hours about the symbolism and the parallels we can draw between myth and reality but would be interested to read what other minds think on the subject….

And this is how it all started, The day before I had joined “The Official WikiLeaks Forum” and I found it so exciting as well as daunting, typing up my very first post, getting to grips with the simple but still mysterious “Simple Machines” forum software, wondering how my post would be received if there are going to be any comments by others, what the discussions would be like etc…

Two years have gone by, “The Official WikiLeaks Forum” is now history replaced by “The WikiLeaks Discussion Forum” a trap set by its owner, ready to mislead, disinform and do harm.

But the post that I wrote then I could write again now.  This time Bradley Manning’s clear voice trumpeting the truth and revealing his motivation, no more no less than Prometheus’ motivation : pity for the human condition and love. We have heard his message loud and clear. All we need now is a Hercules.

We have a saying in Greek: “Οργη Λαου Φωνη Θεου” which translates to “the ferocious vocal anger of the people is the voice of God”. Would that vocal anger ‘half human, half god’ be the modern Hercules that will save Bradley?

I sincerely hope so. Here is his message in his own voice:

The Republic of Cyprus has just had its Presidential Election in February 2013. As part of the Elections Campaign in December 2012, a group called ‘Initiative from young people for our future‘ brought to light aspects of Presidential Candidate Mr Anastasiades’  political thinking and manoeuvring  previously  untapped on. They did so by publishing an open letter to the electorate, analysing the Downer Documents in conjunction with the US Embassy Cables as released by WikiLeaks in 2011.

The initiative was a political one that sought to influence electoral decision making in the Cyprus Presidential Election 2013. The original documents in English, a partial translation of excerpts, and the group’s political analysis were all presented in a post at Mr Lillikas Presidential Campaign Website (see sources below) . Mr Lillikas run as an Independent Presidential Candidate and obtained 25% of the vote coming third in the elections. Mr Anastasiades won the election and is the new President of Cyprus.

To understand the significance of this initiative as well as to evaluate what it reveals one should understand what was the Annan Plan was. The island of Cyprus is divided into two parts after a 1974 invasion and occupation by Turkey. Wikipedia explains:

The Annan Plan was a United Nations proposal to resolve the Cyprus dispute. The proposal suggested to restructure the Republic of Cyprus as a “United Republic of Cyprus”, which would be a federation of two states. It was revised a number of times before being put to the people of Cyprus in a referendum.

Also importantly, the results of the Referendum are highlighted as follows:

The separate simultaneous referenda held in Cyprus on 24 April 2004 resulted in the majority Greek Cypriot population voting down the UN Plan (75.38% against), whereas the minority Turkish Cypriot population voted for the Plan (64.91% in favour). The turn-out was high: 89.18% for the Greek Cypriots and 87% for the Turkish Cypriots.

The political leaders of both sides (Tassos Papadopoulos and Rauf Denktaş) had campaigned for a ‘no’ vote, but Talat had campaigned for a ‘yes’ vote, strongly supported by Turkey.

In exit polls 75% of the Greek Cypriots who voted ‘No’ cited ‘security concerns’ as the main reason for their choice. Turkey had not only once again been given the right of unilateral military intervention, but would be allowed to keep a large number of troops in Cyprus after a settlement, whereas the [Greek]* National Guard was to be dissolved.

An academic study [from Secret Diplomacy to Public Diplomacy by Alexandros Lordos]* of the electorate’s response to the Annan Plan states that it was doomed to rejection at the polls, because it was developed through an “ill-designed process of secret diplomacy” which disregarded the views of the Cypriot public. The study recommends that future efforts should incorporate consultation with the public into the negotiation process.

    *parenthesis added by me

Therefore any revelations that Mr Anastassiades  privately supported the Annan Plan and planned to re-introduce it despite the overwhelming rejection of the plan by Greek Cypriots could have had significant effects both in his popularity as well as his ability to pursue such course in the future. Mr Lillikas’ presidential campaign political advertisement video   ‘Who do you trust to answer that call?” (English & Greek) also implied that a New Annan Plan is on the cards. Interestingly it was censored on the basis of negative advertising.

Here is the Open Letter to the Cyprus electorate in translation:

‘Revelatory documents from Wikileaks Youth Initiative for our Future’, published on 21/12/2013.

As young people with concerns we have learned to look for the truth without compromises. We need to convey to people what we find disturbing after a thorough study of Mr Downer’s  documents that were leaked as well as what  has been published on the website Wikileaks.

The documents that we reveal intact to you today – as the fourth power – aim to empower your role as citizens with objective and complete information. We want to make known what has been agreed behind closed doors for the people, without the people, and bring forward  the falsities been said to the people. The documents cover the period up to 2009, and shoot down, in the most unequivocal manner, Mr. Anastasiadis claim  that the Annan Plan is condemned to the past. The documents speak for themselves. We reserve judgement whether the documents truthfully represent the facts described in them. Still, on face value as sources the documents reveal that The Anan Plan remains the true and only political base for a solution to the Cyprus problem, amongst politicians and negotiators irrespective of where the discussions take place in Cyprus or even in Turkey .

    For example:
    – Document 06NICOSIA766. dated 23.5.06, paragraph 6 :

Neophytou pointed out that his party had suffered dearly for its “Yes” vote in the Annan Plan referendum. […] For this reason, he noted, his party “cannot publicly support the Annan Plan.” Although he is willing to acknowledge privately that the Plan remained the only viable basis for reunification,[1]

    – Document dated 16.1.2009 written by Mr. Steven Brouke the Department of Political Affairs and Good Offices of the United Nations after meeting with Downer Anastasiadis:

Paragraph 7. “According to Mr. Anastasiadis, had agreement been reached over the use of the Annan Plan as a basis of the current negotiations, the process could have moved more quickly.”

Supporting the above is the reference fire during the meeting Gul in Turkey-Anastasiadis document 05ANKARA799 day. 11.2.2005 that:

Anastassiades raised changes to the Annan Plan that could help DISY gain more support for it among Greek Cypriots [2]

Disli said Anastassiades told Gul that if there were “certain changes” to the Annan Plan, DISY would again push the Plan with the Greek Cypriot public.[2]

(Note the quotation marks on the original document denoting that the changes would be decorative and not in real essence as shown also by the leaked Downer documents  quoted immediately below!)

    – Letter dated 13.4.2009 Mr. Steve Bourke Report on Meeting Anastasiadis – Downer:

Paragraph 3 Anastassiades suggested [..]  The next project to be presented must look better than the last. Downer stated that it would look different, architecturally and numerically.
Paragraph 4.  The media, he (Downer) opined, appeared to be anti-solution. A solution will have to be paid for, he suggested, and the cost of failure needed to be more of a focus. There is not enough focus on what happens in the event of a failure. Paragraph 5 Anastassiades agreed.

    – Document 08NICOSIA273 date: 30.4.2008.

Paragraph [correction 8 &] 9. The U.S. Ambassador said the following after his meeting with Mr Anastasiadis: Anastassiades actually favored retabling the Annan Plan and aiming for changes designed to assuage G/C concerns[…] [3]

[…]should Anastassiades mention it publicly — or even privately, only to see it later leaked — the subsequent condemnation might marginalize the talented politician at a crucial time. We think he is better served by lobbying for inclusion of Annan elements, but not the Plan and its terminology, into the negotiators’ in-baskets.[3]

    – Document dated 26.1.2009 09NICOSIA47:

The continued demonization of the Annan Plan, […] had closed off useful avenues of negotiation, Anastassiades asserted.[4]

The documents also reveal with certainty the historical alliance between DISY and AKEL as shown in the following among others:

    – Document dated 3.5.2009 09NICOSIA317:

Paragraph 5. entitled «lets find a way to join forces» say let’s find a way to join forces,Anastassiades said that his party still wanted to make common cause with the pro-solution AKEL in order to build the public momentum necessary to achieve a “yes” vote in a future referendum.[5]

    – Document dated 7.2.08 08NICOSIA91

Paragraph 4. Anastassiades welcomed an informal tie-up between ideologically-dissimilar DISY and AKEL since, in his opinion, such an arrangement would ensure that any CyProb solution that Greek Cypriot negotiators secured would enjoy broad-based political support in Parliament. “AKEL probably doesn’t have the courage to dance, however,” he charged.[6]

Finally, the documents reveal Anastasiades’ opinion for the late & esteemed  Tassos Papadopoulos.

    – Document code 07NICOSIA839 dated 18.10.2007:

1st Paragraph. Anastassiades […] Cyprus dire[c]ly needed new leadership, he argued, as President Tassos Papadopoulos’s “stupid” policies had brought shame and embarrassment on the island […] [7]

Paragraph 7. Papadopoulos was driving the country to disaster but whistling all the way, Anastassiades decried. [7]

See    Excerpts from the documents translated into Greek    The Downer Documents and WikiLeaks Cables in English

These documents relentlessly reveal the only truth, that the game is rigged. Despite Anastasiades’ pre-election statements, the documents prove that Mr. Anastasiades insists on Annan plan type solution with simple beautifications.

We pledge to continue our research and that whenever we judge a document deserves to be in the knowledge society will be publicly available.

We overturn the present, we create the future.

    ******************

It is difficult to assess the impact this initiative had on the Presidential elections in Cyprus in February 2013. We have to ask ourselves did the US Embassy Cables helped to shape the mind of the electorate ? At the end of the day these elections where mainly won on the dissatisfaction of the electorate towards the previous President Mr Christofias, to the advantage of his arch rival Mr Anastassiades. His handling of the Mari Crisis (explosion of M/V Monchegorsk cargo) was deeply criticised as well as the economic crisis that brought the Troika into Cyprus to negotiate a Baylout. Economics seem to be the main factor in influencing the electorate’s decision making. Still Mr Lillikas’ comfortable 25 % as an independent, with a novel proposal on surpassing the crisis as well as emphasis on National Sovereignty in Natural Gas exploitation and a clearly anti-Annan Plan stance shows that his alternative campaign did convince a great number of ppl to vote for him. He has legitimised the use of the US Embassy Cables, in open political discourse in Cyprus by embrasing the findings of this youth group. For this alone I believe their impact has been enhanced.

    http://wikileaks-press.org/topic/us-pressure-to-seize-explosives-behind-2011-cyprus-naval-base-explosion-2/

The Evangelos Florakis Naval Base explosion in Mari occurred on 11 July 2011, when 98 containers of explosives that had been stored for 2½ years in the sun on the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base near Zygi self-detonated. The resulting explosion killed 13 people, and damaged all of the buildings in Zygi, the island’s largest power station, then responsible for supplying over half of Cyprus’ electricity.

The containers of explosives on the base had been seized by the US Navy in 2009 after it intercepted a Cypriot-flagged, Russian owned vessel, the MV Monchegorsk, travelling from Iran to Syria in the Red Sea. According to US diplomatic cables leaked through WikiLeaks, the US pressured Cyprus to confiscate the shipment, as it was apparently in violation of UN sanctions on Iran. [1] The Cyprus Navy was given responsibility for the explosives, and it moved them to the Evangelos Florakis a month later.

The Cypriot government declined offers from Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States to remove or dispose of the material, fearing adverse reaction from Syria. [2] The government had instead requested that the UN effect the removal, but claimed that its request had been rejected.

As a result of the incident, the Cypriot Defence Minister and the Commander-in-Chief of the Cypriot National Guard both resigned. Angered by the government’s failure to dispose of the munitions, which had been seized in 2009, several thousand citizens staged demonstrations in the capital Nicosia and other cities every day in the week following the accident. The EU estimated the cost of the explosion could be just over 10% of the country’s economy.

The US Foreign policy assessment as outlined by their Ambassador to Cyprus was as follows [1]:

Official Cyprus is telling us their primary interest lies in fulfilling UNSC obligations and removing the cargo from the island, preferably under UN cover.  However, RoC political realities — mainly, the desire to keep Moscow happy at all costs and prevent Damascus from retaliating by upgrading relations or links with the “illegal Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” — pose a countervailing demand that the vessel eventually reach Syria.  We therefore recommend that Washington keep this in mind as it evaluates this latest proposal that Cyprus has decided to explore withthe Russians.  It is difficult to gauge from here what Moscow’s position would be once the question reached the Council or Sanctions Committee.  In any case, the RoC is looking for an out, and the passage of time now increases the likelihood of an unfortunate government decision to allow the Monchegorsk to sail.

On the 2nd of September 2011, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation citing diplomatic documents released by Wikileaks, revealed that the Cypriot government received intense pressure (with epicentre the 1747 UN Security Council Resolution, in which sanctions were imposed on Iran) before she confiscated the cargo that was heading to Syria, in early February 2009.

Previously, the US had requested from Egypt to detain the vessel within her territorial waters, stressing that “we were seeking Egypt’s cooperation in seizing the vessel’ [2]. Egypt rejected co-operation and the US turned attention to Cyprus.

Faced with pressures that if she did not confiscate the cargo she would be violating the Resolution, Cyprus attempted to appeal to the UN Security Council for a decision on the specific case of the M/V Monchegorsk cargo. But pressures mounted to proceed to immediate application of the Resolution.

In particular, the US envoy to the UN uses the Turkish occupation and de-facto partition of the island of Cyprus  as a lever to persuade the Cypriot government to toe the line with regards to automatically implementing resolution 1747 for the cargo on board M/V Monchegorsk` [3]

‘Wolff warned that Cyprus has a great stake in the self-enforcing nature of Security Council resolutions; imagine, he said, if countries left it to the Security Council to decide what might be allowed in terms of relations with Northern Cyprus. Wolff added that this situation is the first test of resolution 1747 and the manner in which Cyprus responds would become a precedent that could undermine the entire UN sanctions regime.’

Furthermore, the Turkish occupation and de-facto partition of the island of Cyprus is reported again in the cables as a negotiating lever, this time by Syria (SARG), to apply pressure to the government of Cyprus to let the vessel continue its voyage. [4]

‘No end-state other than an RoC decision to let the vessel proceed to Latakeia would satisfy the SARG, Dionysiou predicted.  Should that not occur, the Syrians would look to upgrade further their relations with the breakaway “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, and lobby hard on the “TRNC’s” behalf within the OIC.’

    And

‘Cyprus’s 2006 decision to interdict the M/V Gregorio, a vessel carrying missile radar equipment from North Korea to Syria, had caused grave damage to its bilateral relations with Damascus.  The Syrians had responded by green-lighting regular ferry service between Latakeia and the “occupied” port of Famagusta in the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.” […] They worry that further government action against the Monchegorsk might provoke Damascus to take further steps to “upgrade” the “TRNC.”’[5]

Diplomatic pressure from US (Ambassador Urbacic emphasizing the obligations of Cyprus and noting Washington’s highest-possible-level –interest [5]),UK (High Commissioner Peter Millet [6] as well as the British Ambassador [2]), in addition to France & Germany, via their Ambassadors [4] continued while Cyprus expressly needed a “a blue flag (United Nations) solution,” [6].

In this issue Cypriot inter-government perspectives diverge as expressed by Foreign Minister

‘Kyprianou claimed that “these people” — pointing at President Demetris Christofias and fellow AKEL party glitterati — had allowed the Monchegorsk to become an ideological, David versus Goliath affair, with “little Cyprus” naturally cozying up to Syria’s David.  Such an interpretation did not bode well for a solution acceptable to the U.S., Britain, and others,’[6]

Clinton’s State Department instructed its Embassy to intensify pressures further. It expressed concern at the highest levels of the USG, indicated that if the ship arrived in Syria the USG would not be able to portray the ROC’s actions in the most positive light, that Cyprus had an obligation to prevent the use of a Cypriot flagged vessel from participating in the Iran-Syria transaction and it should stop this shipment in order to protect the integrity and sound reputation of its ship registry [7]

To put the latter statement into perspective, Cyprus has the fourth-largest ship registry in the world [8] and its significance in the Island’s economy cannot be stressed enough.

    The unrelenting pressure continued:

‘Without its desperately-sought “UN cover,” we believe that Cyprus will continue to resist with all means available the off-loading of the Monchegorsk in Limassol.  We also understand, however, that the EU is turning up the heat on the RoC to take action in line with EU Common Positions.  Success in Brussels would be the best outcome to the Monchegorsk affair.’ [9]

till Cypriot government first stated that ‘will not be able to withstand the pressure much longer, and has to find a way out’ [10] and then capitulated with the offloading of the vessel’s cargo [11]. A few weeks later Clinton’s US State Department  drafts proposed text for the UN Iran Sanctions Committee letter thanking Cyprus, with further  guidelines to them to retain the cargo [12]

Cyprus’s final compliance, albeit half-hearted, came only after a full-court international press from the UN Security Council and EU. Cyprus did not win any favours with the US or UN for its acquiescence.  Within weeks of unloading the cargo, FM Kyprianou pending visit to the US with the Island’s efforts for Unification on the agenda, the US Ambassador in Nicosia explains that the UN envoy Alexander Downer recently argued “it is time to inject some uncertainty in Greek Cypriots’ minds that this cannot go forever”. He then goes on to recommend that US should support Downer in his campaign, further suggesting ways and means of pressuring Cyprus and Greece to make a deal, whilst berating the Cypriot president’s Non-Aligned Movement aspirations. [13]

The significance of the diplomatic cables is that they threw timely light into the diplomatic pressures and negotiations behind the decision to accept the dangerous cargo onto Cyprus.

Some Mainstream Media have been expressing prejudicial intent. For example even today Tom McCarthy at the Guardian live Blog states “Julian Assange, who was to be extradited from UK to Sweden to face sexual crime charges, seeks asylum under UN charter” http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/jun/19/julian-assange-asylum-ecuadorian-embassy?newsfeed=true. But the fact is that Julian Assange has not been charged, and we have to ask the question why this inaccuracy in reporting persists if there is no intent to prejudice. There are hundreds of articles that mention the same. Even the UK Supreme Court  had to correct its own statement: paragraph 83 of the judgment refers to offences of which Mr Assange “stands charged”. This is not accurate as charges have not been brought  against Mr Assange. The judgment will be corrected to read “offences in  respect of which his extradition is sought”.”http://www.supremecourt.gov.uk/news/julian-assange-v-swedish-prosecution-authority.html.  How can this allow for  a fair trial where his basic human rights are safeguarded?

If he is extradited to Sweden, we know that he awaits incommunicado detention for an indefinite amount of time. For a man who has not been charged with any crime in any country, FoWL consider this arbitrary and unlawful detention and thus a violation of European Convention on Human Rights. Moreover, once he is extradited to Sweden, the danger of his further extradition  to the USA looms. It has emerged through the release of internal emails  by the US private intelligence service Stratfor that the USA have issued  a sealed indictment against Mr. Assange over a year ago. There is also a  secret Grand Jury against WikiLeaks going on at the moment, attempting  to charge Mr. Assange under the Espionage Act, and his death has been called for by key US officials.

The situation deserves to be read in its entirety- a media organisation providing the means for the publication of whistle-blower media and an award-winning journalist with an ethos deeply anchored in human rights activism are being attacked for serving one of the most important functions in a democratic society – that of mapping the terrain so that we, as active and engaged citizens, can navigate democracy.

We have seen in the WikiLeaks revelations how international politics and diplomacy work. One story for the public, but the reality is very different. We understand this case as politicized and we see that Governments in Australia, Sweden, US as well in the UK, are hiding behind “judicial proceedings” trying in public to “wash their hands off” any responsibility but are acting in a political manner. Behind closed doors they plan, negotiate and agree on a political and diplomatic level the fate of a man whose work they view as damaging to their perceived interests. Bradley Manning’s treatment is evident for all to see, his freedom taken his human right trampled upon. We bring forward into the open the claim that this is a political issue however it is disguised.  Freedom for Information requests come back with very little information in most of the countries involved. We want this to stop. We want transparency in government dealings regarding this case.

To the Ecuadorian Embassy we say, we welcome your consideration of Mr. Assange’s asylum request and urge you to accept. We appreciate the bravery your country will show in standing up to defend his human rights. The UK Government has failed to take a clear position on the plight of Julian Assange, despite there being clear concerns about the manner in which the European Arrest Warrant has been issued and executed and despite there being room for the UK Government to overturn the UK Supreme Court decision. We believe it is most imperative that the safety of Julian Assange and the vital work he engages in are protected.

    Yours faithfully,

the Global FoWL (Friends of WikiLeaks)

  • JULIAN ASSANGE FROM PDF EUROPE 2009

    NOVEMBER 20, 2009

I find that in my work, in that area of the world and in Africa. I ‘m drawn to […] especially in places like Cambodia that there are not examples of what people do  to keep their governments honest and  […]successful ; so in Cambodia the entire journalistic profession was wiped out years ago and started from scratch. Here in Europe, we still have some tradition, maybe it was a little set back in World War II but it is something that needs to be continually renewed and that is, the people here have to develop solidarity and a history, an intellectual history and understanding and how to keep government and business honest.

A friend of mine in the United States Daniel Ellsberg who famously leaked the pentagon papers used a phrase I have become fond of “Courage is contagious” and that is that when someone engages in a courageous act and shows other people that, that act was not an act of […]but rather, an intelligently designed act that succeeded, […] act, it encourages other people to follow. So, if this conference has some real meat to it, I think it is that people here can see others successfully engaging in courageous acts and take from them an example of how they can get a move on themselves.

As far as there is my perception, when working in many difficult areas it is not just the East or the developing world that need this type of courage. In Europe, UK as an example, there are apparently between two to three hundred suppression orders, secret gang orders, gagging the press. How many people in this room know that. ‘One’ and I told you (laughter) and why don’t you know? Well, they are secret gag orders. That is not inclusding thousand […] orders. Now, we have broken these orders but none of the newspapers in the UK have […] broken any of these orders.

One go at ‘The Guardian’ newspaper Tragifura […], that became the most printed copy on twitter that helped break one of them […] we worked around them and managed to get one URL of the secret report that was gagged […] into the parliamentary record including the column, the slashes… everything!

So, that is a little example. I would say to you, why aren’t more journalists being arrested in Europe? why aren’t more transparency activists arrested in Europe? It’s not because Europe has no problems, it’s not because Europe is a gentle society, but we must say that countries like Denmark have probably more gentle societies than Kenya, but nonetheless Europe is involved in the big geopolitical game internally. It is, UK, now a favourite place for Russian oligarchs, there are extreme problems in Europe I suppose that people in England would like to know that as well.

Where is the civil courage amongst civil society in Europe, I see some of it, I think there should be more. When Alexander Solzhenitsyn went to the United States, engaged in an address to Harvard 1978 he was concerned that the strength of solidarity in civil society and courage in civil society was absent, that was a corrosive force in the United States. So, [if] I have one thing to say is that I encourage you not to become martyrs but instead to intelligently understand how far you can push government into doing something that is just by exposing injustice and we have many many in our website, many thousand of examples of people successfully doing that. My friends in Kenya who are journalists who are raided every couple of years in the newspaper, sometimes put in prison, they managed the situation intelligently and they would write an article exposing […] corruption or political dealings and then go to Tanzania for a week’s holiday until they understand of whether they can get away with ever coming back. They make sure they are taken into prise for half a day and not more. For half a day a journalist […] CV. But it is a combination of intelligence and courage that it allows us to push our way forward in the world and hopefully people here can bind together in some sort of solidarity of examples that I have sen successful elsewhere.

I posted these two images with the commentary Reality vs Fiction. I have replaced the real name of the person who drew the cartoon with the ones she is known in the virtual world. My intention was to have a conversation with one of my FB friends about a photo I had been tagged in but also discuss with other FB friends the Cartoon of me that I had found hurtful and offensive. As it happened by mentioning the cartoon creators real name I somehow allowed her FB access to this post and she started posting to it which was a total surprise to me, furthermore another individual Neo Andersson (aka Mark forum owner) also started posting on the thread. In the end I restricted their access to my private page through FB settings. I  omit here some of my comments I addressed to an entirely different individual since they not related at all with the purpose of this post. Here is the exchange:

    • Isis / EPJas2 wtf – 1. this is kidding 2. the way you have been trolling other persons with this drama guy posting their full names in pastebin despite knowing they were threatened was awful 3. this has nothing to do with your supporting Assange for his rights but with other stuff.

The reality is that you are almost daily in front of the Embassy.
The other reality is that Assange is using a false twitter account posting SMEARS on viruses on the forum, wich is a false thing.
The 3rd reality is that you keep bad talking about the forum all the ways despite being out of it for a lot so YES i was Kidding about cabledrummer there Hypnotizing a lot of persons with his own views and those, yourself included, REFUSE to see the good aims of myself & other ppl.

This image is IRONICAL and nothing terrible.
You are perfectly free of drawing myself whenever you want.

    • Greek Emmy […..addressing another friend] Isis/ EPJas2 you know more than anyone what Mark was prepared to do and had to be stopped. Exposing this truth and his deception was important to me. When I told you a year ago TrixiZ (now T) was Mark you did not believe me, do you believe me now? he has been pretending for a whole year that he did not speak English, that he was a lovable young man who got drunk and was into anon and loved cats, why? do you remember what conversations he had with you in jabber? you have forgiven him, just I never confronted him with his duplicity at the time but the truth is that the two are one and the sasm

    • Greek Emmy So you think there is nothing terrible with this cartoon, now I tell you (since you obviously cannot judge for yourself) that I find it offensive, both in the depiction of Cabledrummer and in the depiction of me. You have already twitted it so you want to openly inform your followers about your offensive opinions about me. I will not respond to your taunts in twitter. I will let others make their own mind about what is true and what is fiction. But there something clear to me, I simply do not recognise you.

    • Greek Emmy Well Isis / EPJas2, at least we finally agree in something! How refreshing: We do not recognise each other. We used to agree in supporting Wikileaks and Assange which was the basis of our work at the forum. Now this common shared basis is no longer there, and that is how the rest of the friendship has sadly collapsed. I find your attack surprising and disturbing that you put your beautiful art and obvious talent in the service of the anti-Assange/ anti-Wikileaks operatives. It is your choice but you make me so sad. Goodbye.

    January 21 at 9:30pm ·
Interestingly Isis / EPJas2 switches her laptop for her mobile just after her first comment. On her way out? hope to grab Instagram pictures of the exchange? (I have noticed she likes to tweet those) or shall we be really conspiratorial and ridiculously paranoid and suggest that in fact someone else is now in control of her FB account and uses it via a mbl… who could that be? who could that be… oh wait a second… who follows her immediately afterwards in the comments thread? …oh it is Neo Anderson aka Neo Fawkes, TrixiZ, MegaTrixZ, Mannigsassg (and whatever else nick Mark choses to disguise himself in, in his Facebook persona).
The other interesting thing is that the commentary above is very telling of what Isis really thinks of Assange/Wikileaks. After all I am hardly relevant to the big story which is how social media is used to infiltrate and break up the support to WL. The important thing is how this ‘new direction’ at the Forum is pushing the anti-Assange agenda. Whether a willing participant or misguided, Isis/EPJas2 follows this new direction with some enthusiasm and passion.
PS= When Isis/ EPSJas2 refers to Pastebin private data, she is referring to my post which you will find here: http://wp.me/p2MRYW-11

    About Wikileaks Forum

I used to be a “member” of Wikileaks Forum until I got blocked by it on Twitter one day. I was pretty surprised. Since then, I’ve learned WL forum had been taken over already then by anti- Assange elements. Here’s a follow up that shows WLForum’s true colours.

@treisiroon comments on a conversation between @AnnieDarkhorse, who is a staunch JA supporter, & @EPJas2, who is part of the wikileaks forum.

    1. @AnnieDarkhorse @EPJas2 I support WL & JA. I don’t support WLForum, who blocked me when I once criticised the public cabledrum-forum feud.
    2. @AnnieDarkhorse @EPJas2 2/2 Interestingly, the Tweet was neutral-no way to know if it was directed at Cabledrum or WLForum. Forum blocked me
    3. @EPJas2 and you blocked me. Sensitive trigger finger, it seems, from “open debate” people. @AnnieDarkhorse
    4. @treisiroon #AnnieDarkhorse I’ll try to clear this… may be a bug … wait a min.
    5. @treisiroon No I never did – Damn it’s a twitter bug sorry
    6. @treisiroon it’s a bug … wait
    7. @EPJas2 It was no bug. I expressed criticism of childish public arguments. I was blocked. Pretty straightforward. #Wikileaks#Assange
    8. @treisiroon i haven’t blocked you.. anyway.. listen childish is not that polite eh!
    9. @EPJas2 Based on behaviour of WLForum, timing of the block&that I’ve never heard of a “blocking bug”, I simply don’t believe that. #Wikileaks
    10. @EPJas2 the Tweets coming from #WLForum were anything but polite. It was an ugly public feud. I pointed it out neutrally (to both u & CD).
    11. @treisiroon you trolled it – U should know a forum is for all the opinions – do you think #Assange is Perfect? do u think #wikileaksisSo?
    12. @EPJas2 are you now admitting that you did, indeed purposely block me? You call a forum member expressing an opinion trolling? lol.
    13. @treisiroon NO I never did, I don’t run the forum’s account
    14. @EPJas2 blocking me&calling me troll shows u give way more space to Assange haters (ie Alan Taylor & Objectivisor) than Wikileaks supporters
    15. @treisiroon I don’t run the @wikileaks_forum account – I’m just saying you have been unpolite toward it bcs I’ve seen your tweets
    16. @EPJas2 You just earlier implied you did (“I’m #WL_Forum“). You are playing a lot of games. Perhaps you have time for that. I don’t.
    17. @EPJas2 I knew nothing of the anti Assange takeover when I was blocked. I am wiser now .U also just lied to me.Twice. #Wikileaks
    18. @treisiroon I NEVER lied to you NEVER

I see lies. Anyone else see lies?

    1. @EPJas2 u claimed “I’m WL_Forum” & claimed I was blocked by a “Twitter bug”. Next, u say u don’t run acct & I was blocked 4 being “impolite”
    2. @treisiroon .. ok truth i used to tweet by by forum’s account to post #SJA tweets in Support of #Assange ONLY … wait .. i’ll show U
    3. @treisiroon This site.. support-julian-assange.com/ that now reports also cabledrummer’s menaces toward us..
    4. @treisiroon Jasmine is me – support-julian-assange.com/… and i’ve kept posting pro #Assange Daily
    5. @treisiroon support-julian-assange.com/… every day.. untill he hasn’t posted lies on the fact we had viruses

    Back to the “bug”

    1. @treisiroon U are not listening to me 1. it MAY be a bug (pheraphs) 2. U are impolite ^^

Now let’s get down to slagging on Wikileaks.

    1. @treisiroon calm dawn and try to understand that not all those in WL are in wl for defending human rights
    2. @treisiroon some in wl are there for personal power and aims, destroying wl from the inside
    3. @treisiroon ppl attacking the forum for noticing these issues just find it uncomfortable

Pity party (2 years “defending”? Not what I’ve seen recently from WL Forum!)

    1. @treisiroon do U think it is nice to me, after 2 years of efforts defending #Assange ,seeing that they tweet we have spyware when it’sFalse
    2. @treisiroon i’m heartbroken for that… that wl itself is misbehaving bcs “we” are uncomfortable…’hope this is gonna change but i thinkNot
    3. @treisiroon i don’t hope to persuade anyone here on twitter.. just avoid me or forum if u don’t like it

Here’s a fact for @EPJas2 on the above:

    1.  @EPJas2 NONE of the things you are tweeting at me have anything to do w/ the fact that WikileaksForum blocked me last year. #Wikileaks

Oops. Facts and returning to the topic at hand make me a troll.

    1. @treisiroon oh dear, you are definitively a troll.. now i see why the forum has blocked you… let’s end it here
    2. @treisiroon U don’t see and don’t want to see – that’s all – keep beliving what u want

Here’s a response to the “pity me” Tweets from @EPJas2. Jas misses the irony.

    1. @EPJas2 & do u think it was nice 4 me, as JA WL supporter & (then) member of WLForum, 2B blocked 4 criticising yr open feuding? #PityParty
    2. @treisiroon seen your rude behviour,, no i think u felt sad.. but u have no good intentions toward anyone here that’s clear
    3. @treisiroon … think what u want… i’m not going to try to persuade u… i am not a “priest” lol… shape your own ideas and be happy

And this gem from @EPJas2 (remember, Wikileaks_Forum is censoring cables and giving space to anti- Assange accounts while blocking & deleting content from Assange supporters).

    My Comment:
Thank you for this @treisiroon, I have posted this at my blog here with your permission:http://atomic-temporary-41199926.wpcomstaging.com/2013/01/29/about-wikileaks-forum-by-treisiroon-shared-via-twitter-tuesday-the-29th-of-january-2013/?postpost=v2 EPJ seems to misunderstand aspects of your communication with her, although I am not quite sure whether this is intentional or not. I worked closely with her at the forum and always found her enthusiastic and hard working but when it came down to it, she chose to make Mark, the owner of the forum, (who makes all decisions regarding banning, blocking etc) her moral compass. Following his lead she has put all her talents in his new anti-Assange anti-WikiLeaks direction. She has accepted as normal Mark’s ridiculous charade of using the WikiLeaks principals of free speech as a pre-text to attack and discredit WikiLeaks and Assange. How can this ever be acceptable to a supporter? If I accept that what she writes she 100% believes then EPJas2 is the most tragic figure of this saga and I will blame Mark for making her lose her moral way. Ultimately, though, we are all responsible for our actions. Her unwillingness to listen to you and your valid story of being banned/blocked by the forum is illustrative of her defensiveness, despite the fact that you were the wronged one. Reversing the table and attacking you as a Censor when you are the one who has been censored is a FearUncertaintyDoubt tactic which points to a particular song sheet certain type of twitter accounts sing from. Pity, pity such a hard worker with real artistic talent to be so misguided. What she thinks of me? her art says it cruelly all: https://twitter.com/i/#!/EPJas2/media/slideshow?url=pic.twitter.com%2FdDuAqhRm, everyone who disagrees with Mark’s new forum transformation he/she is either a Censor/Smearer or under the hypnotic influence of Cabledrum… I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at her offence.

    JA editorial note on change:

We live in the world that we perceive. Our limits are the limits of our perceptions. This generation knows more than any previous generation. Its actions will eclipse those of previous generations. We change the world by observing its behavior, thinking about our observations and acting on our thoughts. To observe we must open our eyes. To think we must open our minds. To act, we must open our hearts. Our eyes have never been so wide. Our minds never so trained. And the courage in our hearts spreads like a contagion.
