I post here copy of the letter I have just sent to Mr Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, UK regarding their Spokesperson’s public comment about Julian Assange. It is self explanatory. I used the electronic submission system here: https://www.libdems.org.uk/contact.aspx and I am posting a papercopy to his address in Great George street today. I am also posting a copy of my complaint with a cover letter to my local MP.

    From: Mrs Emmy **** ************ ************ ************

To: Mr Nick Clegg Leader of the Liberal Democrats 8-10 Great George Street London SW1P 3AE

Dear Mr Clegg                     10th June 2012

On the 9th of June 2012, I attended the “Anti ACTA and Digital Economy Act March – and the new menace CISPA (LONDON)” outside Europe House, 32 Smith Square, SW1P 2EU. I have a complaint to make about the conduct of a Liberal Democrat representative- Ms Bridget Fox- and a comment she made during this public demonstration. More than 100 people attended the event both members of the public, campaigners, journalists, politicians and activists. Ms Bridget Fox had given an eloquent speech on the topic and I approached her afterwards with a flyer that I was distributing in support of Julian Assange, the editor in chief of WikiLeaks. As Ms Fox took the flyer she stated:  “I will read it but I have no time for sex offenders”. I was shocked at this statement. The facts of the case are that Sweden has issued a European Arrest Warrant and an Interpol Red Notice in order to further investigate four allegations of sexual offences. No charges have been filed against Julian Assange.  Her statement was both inaccurate and prejudicial. At the end of the speeches I approached Ms Fox again and she acknowledged she had made a flippant remark. I pointed out the inaccuracies of the statement, offering again my leaflet where there are sources for more information on his case. At this point Ms Fox said that what she had said was her opinion, that she was entitled to her own opinion and that we should agree to disagree. Then I explained that in her position of authority as Lib Dem representative, her remarks can influence people, I said “How about if I were a journalist and reported your words”. I was obviously concerned about the impact that her remarks would make on creating prejudice on the case.  But her reply was “Thank you for your interest in my concern but this is my opinion and you can quote me on that”. She stated “you can quote me on that” several times. This is an alarming indication of a blatant disregard of judicial due process and it is exactly statements like this made by public persons in positions of authority that can prejudice legal cases as well as smear the reputation of people involved. Upon my return home I looked up Ms Fox’s name on the internet. I understand that she “has been trusted by the party as a spokesperson on national TV and radio and in national newspapers… As well as representing the Liberal Democrats in meetings across London,” (http://www.bridgetfox.org.uk/) Ms Fox is an official spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats and an experienced politician; it is alarming that she should feel it appropriate to make litigious statements such as this in a public setting which she has been invited to because of her political capacity. Importantly, Ms Fox was not attending the event as a lay person, she was clearly there representing the Liberal Democrats and she should acknowledge that any statement she made in this public forum would assume a position of authority beyond that of personal opinion. Labelling someone who has not been charged with any offense a ‘sex offender’ has clear slanderous implications and is highly inappropriate for Ms Fox to feel she should be entitled to make such a reference at a public event. Furthermore, this experience highlights to me a blatant hypocrisy practiced by some politicians who with a microphone on their hands addressing a crowd and with the cameras fixed upon them declare themselves champions of the rights of the individual but 2 minutes later off air but still within the hearing of many of their audience are ready to tramp upon the rights of an individual, such as Mr Assange’s right to a fair trial. I would therefore like to ask you if you would be so kind as to address my concerns regarding Ms Fox’s statement about Julian Assange: 1. I strongly feel that Ms Fox was wrong in making this statement in a public forum where she was attending on behalf of your party. I request that she publicly acknowledges this mistake and publicly retracts her comment in terms of its factual inaccuracy and slanderous implications. 2. I would like you to clarify the Liberal Democrats position in relation to Julian Assange and the related controversy surrounding UK extradition legislation by issuing an official statement. 3.  Finally I request that you offer re-assurances that the Liberal Democrat Party will stand firm in protecting any person’s (including Mr Assange’s) fundamental human right to a fair trial and that this right will not be hampered by prejudicial statements made by people representing your party. I attach the flyer “Statement of Support for Julian Assange and WikiLeaks” produced by “Friends of WikiLeaks” that I passed on to Mrs Fox for your information.

I thank you for your time. Sincerely yours Mrs Emmy *****

    Transcript by greekemmy

AF: Ok, What would you think is indicated by your supporters being questioned when they enter or leave the United States.

JA: We know there has been a US investigation of unprecedented scale and nature occurring at least the last year and a half to two years, [technically?] part of an [FBI?] investigation.

AF Geoffrey Barter just said that there is no secret sealed warrant for your arrest, why do you think he used that particular turn of phrase?

JA: Geoffrey Barter is a lawyer; he denied that there were secret warrants, that such a thing existed. However, that wasn’t the question. The question is about a sealed indictment and, under US law, a sealed indictment cannot be revealed by a US official to the public, until, the person under sealed indictment is about, is in custody. It is an offense to do so, and a criminal offense. Of course US officials are not able to communicate that.

AF: What do you specifically want the Australian government to do?

JA: Our lawyers have written to Roxon and to the Prime Minister detailing exactly what we want them to do and it is a very reasonable request by international standards, other counties do this all the time and the Australian government has shown in its diplomatic correspondence to have done this in other cases which is simply to ask, ask, that the UK or Sweden agree not to extradite me to the United States, to ask that the UK not prosecute me [it is] not a request on the judiciary, it is not interference with the judiciary, it is a request of the executive government to not pursue such a prosecution.

AF: It’s right then that you would go to Sweden if the Swedish government would say, promise in writing, that they would not extradite you onwards to the United States.

JA: If we had guarantees that made us feel comfortable that I would not be extradited to the United States, these could include for example that the US had agreed to drop its investigation and it could not necessary have to be onto Sweden, there could be onto the UK to force Sweden to not extradite me onwards, it could be on Sweden itself.

There are other issues in relation to Sweden. I mean, for example, the Swedes have said publically that the will detain me without charge. That’s not acceptable either.

AF: The Attorney General of the United States has said that people will be prosecuted and it doesn’t matter how long it takes and that he is indicating that the charges could be at any different level, so it may not be the espionage act itself, is that your understanding?

JA: Yes, looking at the subpoenas that have come out of the Grand Jury, they detail in some case what the Grand Jury is investigating, and one of these subpoenas states that it’s investigating conspiracy in relation to espionage, it is also investigating computer crimes of various types, so that the transfer of information worth more than $1000 belonging to the Federal Government, [… ?] to different jurisdiction.

    AF: So…

JA The reason that is likely to be done is a) so that the DOJ can have two bites at the apple, […] also b) because extradition…sorry…espionage is a classic political offence and there some exemptions to the extradition for political offences, so that would be a way around those exemptions if we tried to use these exemptions to resist.

AF: It would also drop the capital offence category out of it too wouldn’t’ it?

JA: It would remove the capital offence. The capital offence is unlikely to get off the ground, when I’m in Europe. Under the current political conditions Europe would probably require that the United States guarantee that it does not require the death penalty in my extradition. However there could still be life imprisonment or 30 years of imprisonment, and the conditions might be very severe.

AF: Is there any one particular incident that occurred which made you make up your mind, finally, to seek political asylum?

JA: Yes, there are a number of dramatic events that occurred just before hand. First of all, the Swedish Government publicly announced that it would detain me without charge in prison under severe conditions for which it has been criticized for by Fair Trials International. That meant that if I was suddenly taken to Sweden I would not be in a position to apply for a political asylum […] In relation to United States it would be the end of the road. I would just be taken from one jail to another. Secondly, on the same evening (x2) the UK government security contractors that maintain the electronic manacle around my leg turned up unannounced at 10:30 pm and insisted on fitting another manacle to my leg, saying that this was part of routine maintenance, which was not found to be credible, then, the next day, that security contracter filled a section 9 bail breach against me, and that, run the risk that my bail would be revoked. And they did so, they claim, under the basis that we refused to let them in at 10:30 pm unannounced, because of security reasons, and said that they should come back next day with an appointment. The next evening the security contractors re-appeared and fitted a new electronic manacle to my leg. The, the same day, the Crown Prosecution Service, acting we believe on behalf of the Swedish government, at least it meant to act on behalf of the Swedish government, requested that the 14 days I had to apply to the European Court of Human Rights, be reduced to zero.

AF: Ok, so, I understand that you expected that they were trying to end your bail and that they were trying to stop you getting any further court time, and taking the matter to the…

    JA: That is correct.

    AF:…Human Rights Commission

JA: So, these were, a number of independent data points, all puching in the same direction, that my bail would be terminated and that I could not proceed with any further legal action, in practice.

AF: Do you still think it is still possible to get passage out of the Embassy, with the Embassy’s protection, because everything I am reading suggests that, it’s a very difficult obstacle course that you set yourself.

JA: It’s all a matter of politics, provided that there is the political will to do so, then the situation will resolve. If there is enough oversight into what’s been happening in this case, then, I believe the Swedish or UK governments will [relent ?] and provide some guarantees.

AF: I’ve read that the US State Department is saying that you are not entitled to protection under the First Amendment, I mean, is that what they are saying? Is this what the State Department is saying?

JA: Well, you know of course any, any rational person reading the First Amendment can see that it would entitle me to protection, but words are interpreted by judges and judges in the Supreme Court are politically appointed and as we all know from the history of Supreme Court cases, that the Supreme Court tends, almost always to [swing ?] on political lines where the appointees were from the Bush, where the appointees were from the Republicans or from the Democrats.

AF: Sure, but, if, I mean, as you are a journalist, you are protected by that First Amendment, on the basis that you are acting fairly and reasonably…

JA: We say that my activities and the activities of the organisation are protected by the First Amendment and it seems that most other civil rights groups do and civil society does, and the average person in the street does, and even a couple of the US Congressmen had the courage to come forth and say that as well. But, in the end this is a political matter and it would be decided along political lines in the Supreme Court.

AF: If you could say one thing to the Australian people, you have a lot of support in the country, what would that be?

JA: But, first of all that, thanks for the support, I mean, the support from the Australia, the Australian people and the Australian media, Australian volunteer lawyers has been tremendous, one thing that has really kept us going. There are […] support from other countries as well but Australia is the strongest.

AF: Let me ask you a personal question, how are you bearing up at the moment, confined as you are in a rather small space, and not being able to go out and about, your peripepatic nature has been curtailed, what is it like for you dealing with this?

JA: I like a good fight and I have the opportunity to have a good fight, I admit it is confinement to a very small space at the moment but on the other hand our supporters are able to roam the world.

    ****

Any corrections would be most welcome.

  • After the discussions described here:http://wp.me/p2MRYW-f &http://wp.me/p2MRYW-p attacks continued towards WL supporters Jaraparilla and Cabledrum via the WikiLeaks-Forum Twitter Account.
In telephone conversations I had with Mark his dramatic change from WL/JA most ardent supporter to anti-WL/JA was accellerating leaving me doubfounded and numb. In the morning of the 22nd of August 2012 I checked my twitter feed in my i-phone and again I saw new attacks being made against Jaraparilla.
The fact that the attacks were being made by individual (s) hiding their identity behind the generic identity of the forum’s twitter account was cowardly. Mark and whoever else was doing it were using the wikileaks-forum twitter account to saw fear, uncertainty and doubt among WL/JA supporters. I could not be part of this. At the Forum’s Facebook Staff Room both myself and another had raised the issue and to me at least the response was unsatisfactory. There was no point in raising the issue again when my telephone conversations with Mark revealed that his change into an anti-WL/JA was beyond doubt. I had to do something to once and for all cut all links with Mark’s circle of control and withdraw my support to him that I felt legitimised him. Up till that point, the work that I did for the forum as a moderator, being one of many admins at http://www.support-Julian-Assange.com, co-admin for some of the WL Facebook pages he had created and controlled, using the Forum’s twitter account to tweet forum links were all helping him in my modest way in supporting the WL community of WL supporters. His current behaviour indicated that he not only did not support but he was using the tools available to him: eg the forum’twitter account to do harm.
I had to do something to quickly get banned and be done with it. I logged in at the forum’s twitter account tried to change the password to give me some time (I knew I could not technically carry out this to fruition as this was not an account I had set up in the first place but was willing to go as far as I could and cross that line of no return). I sent out some tweets identifying myself and explaining my actions. These were immediately deleted but here is a vague summary from memory:
“I have tried to change the passwords so that I get banned and sever all links / Mark the owner of the forum no longer supports WL/JA so I cannot support him / He might have no choice in what he does / he was concerned his phone was tapped, his car followed / his children photographed / btw I am Green/greekemmy / I conclude the forum is controlled”. Soon after that my access to the WikiLeaks-Forum Twitter Account stopped. My tweets were already gone, only the last one remained for a while.
Here was the reaction at the WikiLeaks Forum Staff Room:

Already at my What’s up I-phone App, Mark had sent me another message:
    22 August 2012 10:46
“Why dud u put me and my kids at such risk? Did i ever attack you personally?
Emmy…please have the decency to own up to your actions. I will assume you are innocent unless you tell me the truth. All the evidence points to you trying to hijack the forum twitter account but I will keep an open mind for now or untill you talk to me and explain. All I ask is did u do it or nor and then I can carey on…Thnx emmy, mark”
The same evening I contacted him and had a long, emotional but civil discussion. I confirmed that I had to do something drastic and immediate to break away and I was not going back. He was firm in his claim that he was not supporting JA/WL but that the forum/sja platforms would carry on, he read to me an apology letter he was posting to the Forum Staff Room about using the twitter account to express his own beliefs. He said I was a sheep following a cult, I said the only person I followed blindly was himself and it was against his authority that I now rebelled, I thanked him for all that I have learnt and I said that where he was leading I cannot follow. (you can read that letter of apology here:  http://wp.me/s2MRYW-31 )
I was then removed from the Facebook WikiLeaks Forum Staff Room Group.
As soon as I was back from my holiday I put my “Green” account on the deletion queue. A few days later I did the same with my “greekemmy” account. In my quick visit I noticed that warning levels had been put in my account (in other words I was on the route for banning) and could not post or send Personal Messages.
I posted the following in my private Facebook Wall, part of which was copied and tweetted by the Wikileaks-forum twitter account:
    Greek Emmy

I few days ago I placed my Green moderator’s account in the queque for deletion. I have now done the same for my greekemmy account. These actions follow through my decision to sever all links with the forum. I have tweeted the reasons for my decision. I am satisfied that the mods and admins are aware of these reasons. If anyone wishes more information on the subject can contact me on my private e-
mail address ************* My last conversation with Mark was on the 22nd. I am satisfied he completely understands my reasons which are not personal. We have agreed to disagree in our support for Julian Assange. I do support Juian Assange, he doesn’t any more. He is entitled to his views, but I cannot be part of his team anymore.
Greek Emmy Since I am no longer an active member of the forum, I will understand if anyone wishes to ‘unfriend’ me. For me, it is not personal.

There is no fully black or white when it comes to Julian Assange support, there is really a lot of greys. One thing is for sure, someone like Assange facing what he has to face- does not need to surround himself with enamored supporters that have the warped thinking patterns of any blind following. In order to accomplish the enormous task he has undertaken, he has to do what can be hard. He has to be able to allow people to critic him and in no way would he benefit from not listening to them. People that follow him blindly are hurting him much more than any critics at this vital time. In this way, the true anti assange crowd could very well be some of his most ardent supporters.
    September 3 at 1:11pm •
Friend A I certainly don’t want to unfriend you Emmy. I have to confess, I am troubled, and not too clear about what has transpired. Stuff about whether someone supports JA or not. Personally I support Wikileaks, and because of the enormous personal sacrifices JA has made for Wikileaks, I will also support him. I support Kristinn Hrafnsson and all the other members and supporters of Wikileaks, but who cares about that?. I somehow feel that this episode has a whiff of ‘divide and conquer’ about it. The forum after all, had no executive function, but was just a place that like-minded individuals could share ideas – like the tea room at work ! Consequently, it really doesn’t matter whether you are a member of ‘the club’ or not … it is what you believe in your heart that really matters. All the organisations – WL – Occupy – Indignados, have never been about people being active – they have all been about people being aware and supportive.

Greek Emmy Thanks everyone for your views expressed here and the ones privately, through private message, jabber, e-mail and What’s up, I have little use of jabber communication with the forum team now so I am thinning back my buddy list. Greek Emmy Oh, I just noticed that my above post has been twitted by the wikileaks-forum.com account, to whom I owe this honour? or are we going to play hide and seek again? 🙂 Mark After I placed my jabber conversation with Julia here and her e-mail to me here in my private Facebook page, you sent me this message on my “what’s up” application: “Emmy, please have the decency to not publish Julia’s personal details in the web. You are putting her at risk by publushing her email and jabber account. She never gave u any reason to do this to her,,,, plz think this over; thAnx mark”. Now you have tweeted the above mentioned post truly to the web containing my e-mail address. Let me say straight away: I forgive you and hold no ill will against you or any member who acts on your behalf. All I want is to disassociate myself from your forum since you are no longer an Assange and WikiLeaks supporter and I am sadly convinced that you will use it to harm the cause that means so much to so many including myself. I will have no part in this. Please delete both my accounts and let’s all move on to whatever everyone choses to do. Many thanks.

Emmy, since you have not answered my email or even address my post here on facebook about these matters that you keep mentioning, it is quite clear to me that you have no interest in paying me that respect. No problem, I will just keep addressing these points without your dialogue input to me. Even though you express that you are convinced that Mark no longer supports WikiLeaks or Julian Assange and that constitutes only your one opinion, the gravity of what you are saying is much more far reaching and potentially damaging to the point that it is painting you as very vindictive person- I don’t care how sweet you write these replies. You know what you are doing and your continuation of this campaign against Mark is sickening to me. This is only one of the many actions that show your true intent. You keep implying that you want to go quietly yet you tried to hijack the forums twitter account- I have seen the screen shots. That is far from going quietly. The exposure of peoples personal information that you have exposed here- after you have addressed me in times I wasn’t being careful enough about your information?- unbelievable! Then this whole debacle of a situation of your forum account being banned on the forum- What is this crap>>> Silenced as usual: @wikileaks_forum has silently banned their most prominent moderator Green from posting “.<<<Are you condoning this? Because if you do- there is more than enough witnesses and proof showing it as absolutely false! My post will continue as long as you continue this passive aggressive vindictive campaign of yours and remember I can see right through every single sugar coated post of yours. Yep, it looks like I am the bad one here doesn’t it, like I may be the vindictive one here. Go ahead paint me black, come on do it. I can take it.

And this is the end of 18 months of being a member and 9 and a half months of being a mod at what started as “The Official WikiLeaks Forum” and ended up as the anti-wikileaks-forum courtecy of its owner and his new “objective” friends.
Why do I make public now this account of events that made me leave the forum?
Because since I left I observed further changes at the forum that confirmed my thoughts that it was becoming a vehicle of hurting the cause and people I support. Therefore events that were known only to a very small number of people, should now become public to help understand what is going on. By throwing light to my personal story it might help others understand that a campaign of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt ) is now at work at the recently re-launched “The WikiLeaks-Discussion Forum”. Let’s try and keep our vision clear.
Post script: twice I posted these 4 posts in paste bin and twice I seem to have lost them. I decided to put them in this blog, which is my very first attempt in doing something like this. I hope it works and gives a home to these posts as well as many others in the future.
Update 13/12/2013 wlf twitter account has been tweeting the screenshots of some of my tweets recently so I was able to take a copy, they have made a mish-mash and not included all of them by anyway here they are:

  • At the foyer without flash and background the Box Office

The film is based on the book “Underground: Tales of Hacking, Madness and Obsession on the Electronic Frontier” . Very interesting to listen to Suelette Dreyfus’ podcast interview about the film at ABC Local Radio  October 7, 2012 and read Christine Assange’ s review of the film at the Herald Sun October 06, 2012.

Having watched the film on youtube the day before from the comfort of my kitchen, it was nice to scive from a prior engagement, hop on the train and tube, take a walk on the Southbank of River Thames in the mildly tempered early evening, and arrive at the British Film Institute in good time to enjoy its comforts and luxury. Watching the film on the big screen was exciting by itself but putting aside the entertainment/educational aspect of the film, my reason for going was to take part in the latest chapter of the WikiLeaks story and find the opportunity to support Julian Assange and WikiLeaks by distributing some flyers. A wonderful graphic designer Somerset Bean had put hours of creative work in putting together a large selection of posters and flyers all in support of WikiLeaks and its work and I had with me about 120 “5 Ways of how to help WikiLeaks and Julian Assange” flyers, looking simply fantastic and ready to spread the word.

Waiting at the plush bar till the doors open with a mug of coffee I had a really nice chat to a young man who was waiting for a friend and had no idea which film they were going to watch. I passed a flyer and we talked about Julian Assange & WikiLeaks among other things… when his friend arrived we all realised we were all there for Underground, although I doubt we shared the same perspective.

Soon enough it was time to move on to the theatre and how lucky it was that I bumped into Kay who I had met not long ago at the Ecuadorian Embassy Vigil in Hans Crescent. It was great she was able to join in with the leafletting. I had briefly explained to the gentleman at the door what I was doing, explaining that the content of the flyer was relevant to the characters in the film and that there was nothing commercial in it. He was going to check with the manager but we were able to start  handing out flyers covering both entrances. I went all around the room, they were  very well received, was thanked repeatedly and lots of positive vibes all around from fellow viewers. In the absence of a film programme I think they were all the more appreciated. I returned to base close to the entrance, kept distributing keeping up with the new entrants, at this point I was approached by the gentleman at the entrance who said :

-“sorry you cannot do this at the theatre, I checked with management”

    -“but why?” I answered

    -“there was a complaint”

    -“what complaint…about distributing the flyers????”

    -“yes”

    -“ok”

he walked off and I went to find Kay to tell her… we had to stop, she had a few things to say but I think we both felt numb. Went back to my seat with dampened spirits thinking who on earth would have complain and sat down considering my next step… then I saw not far from me a bright face with a mop of blond hair that I recognised immediately from interviews I watched… Jennifer Robinson!  “Well she won’t complain if I gave her a flyer I am sure.. ” I thought, and off I went straight to her with a flyer and told her we were being stopped from distributing. Encouraged by her words and her actions, asking for some flyers and handing them out in the vicinity, (others helped too) I took courage and as I returned to my isle seat near the entrance I kept handing flyers as people came in and soon after that the lights were dimmed and the show started.

I really enjoyed the film and thought it would be excellent viewing for the whole family. Having read the book (albeit in a rushed manner) I thought the story was a lot shorter than I remembered. I loved the fact that the script was action based, the actors were showing us what the story was rather than telling us about it, very lively style and the acting was good. I took it for what it was a televised story, how truthful it was to events I had no way of knowing… but I recall that although it kept you fully engaged with the story and the characters it did not have the same intense feeling of angst and heartbreak that permiated the original book, thankfully also less of the jargon which is entirely lost on me.  From a purely film viewing perspective, ultimately an individual experience, I can say that “Underground” left me with a compelling urgency to live my life to the full, and this is what I hope will  stay with me longest.

I would recommend it to anyone.

Underground Ticket and front cover of Flyer “5 ways you can help Julian Assange & WikiLeaks by Graphic Designer Somerset Bean at BFI Foyer

At the end of the film we had a special treat. Up came on stage the authoress, Suelette Dreyfus for a Q&A with an Australian interviewer. I was impressed at the ease of discourse, and thought what a wonderful opportunity to record the session and upload it on you tube and share it. So off I went to the front of the theatre with my i-phone and straight onto the front row…well pleased with myself and thinking of all of those who would love to watch this QA but could not make it. My excitement was short lived as yet again here comes “the gentleman at the door” and whispers in my ear “you can’t video this” here we go again… Dreyfus is talking about social media at the background and technology’s impact on our lives and here we have silly regulations derived by the media copyright industry telling me “you can’t do this” I felt once again my patience tested…”but this is not a commercial viewing, Dreyfus has not come all the way up from Australia to attend the screening of this movie at BFI to answer questions to an interested audience in order to make a million dollars… she has the script of her book on her online blog to download for free for the last goodness knows how many decades!!!” Could I utter my arguments and make a scene? of course not! so my reply to the polite gentleman telling me the rules of this eshtablishment is compliant… “oh ok” and I stopped recording only to turn it back on as soon as he left, at least for the audio part… “I could make a transcript…goodness it will take me all morning…” feeling all worked up and distracted, as I  sat there on my seat boiling, having  visions of being escorted out of the theatre.  Due to all the distractions, I had to wait till I uploaded the audio files (part 1 and part 2) of the interview onto suncloud.com before I could appreciate its content fully. I hope you  enjoy the recording.

As I stormed off in the end full of thoughts of trains and the journey back home, I just spared a moment to what is really happening here. A man in physical limbo in a Knightbridge Embassy.. an organisation that however small seems to have mobilised all kinds of groups and people… with so much inertia that may actually somehow achieve the impossible and move a mountain…

I will post 2 prime examples of misleading tweets postind by Assange personally. These tweets were designed to whip up more hysteria and manupulate the truth. The tweets were published with the sole purpose of tying to create a scenario of almost certain disaster,

Here is te statement in German: ( for German speakers of course )
    http://de.rian.ru/politics/20120817/264211066.html

After reading the lines ( and between the lines ) please let me know WHERE IS THE ” RUSSIAN WARNING ” we were made to believe ?

Another typical example of trying to manupulate the truth:

    Tweet 2:
    https://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/236627822356090880

    Text:
” Large police presence of at least 25 officers + vans continues to surround Ecuadorian embassy at 2am, London time ”

    Large police presence wit ” 25 officers ” ? and ” large vans ”

Its a standard procedure to enhance police presence in the light of unfolding events. Spontanious demonstrations without warning require police presence in order to protect the public. DOn’t forget, hte Ecuador embassy is next to Harrods which is flooded with tourists etc etc ( Knightsbridge ) and the last thing the plice want is 50 demonstators blocking the streets or having to deal with minor scuffles etc etc so its quite normal to have police presence at a place like this…..but be honest, ” 25 policemen! ” ????

I was awake at this time and checked myself with this stream and could only detect a small handfull of police ( 3 to be exact ) : https://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/236632284470579200

There were no demonstators, no drama and definately no ” large police presence ”

I have some interesting chat logs etc etc that would underline the fact that not ” all that glistens is gold ” but I will keep them to myself for now.

Think what you want to think folks and I will do the same.

… And are u sure the “manipulations” are intentional?

    Ma Rk                     4:04pm Aug 18

please read the links I put up carefully 🙂

    Mod1                       4:20pm Aug 18

It’s true: it wasn’t a warning, and the statements abt policemen are exaggerate – I’ll consider these info & value myself – I’ll be supporting the right of having political asylum & a fair trial about JA for the moment.
About Wikileaks: wasn’t it about Releasing Document showing the world’s situations?! I’ll be reading them as… Who knows the persons?! I’ll be reading the Cables, GIFiles, SyriaFiles … That is WikiLeaks: revealing news.

Emmy, I agree with you but sometimes is also hard to stay open-minded and critical. Applebaum is of course entitled to his opinion just as everyone else, even if I think that he’s exaggerating (e.g. “wikileaks has turned elections”). It reads actually like a hymn of praise to Assange and is totally contradictory to his statement “We must not create idols for worship”. As you probably know, I grew up in former Yugoslavia and was Tito’s pioneer. It was fun to dance and sing for him since I was a child at that time. My attitude changed later, not because I found him to be a bad president, but that cultism was simply laughable. And of course more important: we mustn’t question anything. Please, don’t get me wrong now. I am not criticizing supporting Assange and WL, but I think we must have the freedom to question, criticize and oppose things. If that’s not allowed, then we’re heading right into some kind of totalitarianism. (Besides that, after I read and concluded some things I’m not that convinced that there’s a real danger for Assange to be extradited to the USA, but that’s of course only my personal opinion).

p.s. “Flight to Afar” is the first book I read in German. It’s about all kinds of freedom and it has one very good explanation why is the statue of a reading monk free. I can only recommend it. 🙂

    Global Mod                             7:36pm Aug 18

could you tell me the German title of the book *******? 🙂

    Admin2   7:42pm Aug 18

Of course, *****. 🙂 The original title in German is much more nicer: “Sansibar oder der letzte Grund”

    Global Mod                             7:44pm Aug 18

    great, thanks!! => on my reading-list! 😀

    Ma Rk                     7:45pm Aug 18

Emmy….you know that I am definately not a heartbreaker but at the same time I do have this totally *moronic disgusting bad habit….its called THINKING ( *quote george carlin ). At the moment I have detached myself completely from Julian Assange but stand behind the forum.

What you don’t realize is that, although I have problems supporting him at the moment, I will keep the site up and running and give everyone else the chance to form their own opinios too.

I wont take it down simply because I don’t stand behind it. Incidently this was my first site and its development eventually lead to the creation of the forum. Both sites will stay up.

    Ma Rk                     7:46pm Aug 18

I will explain soon in more depth when I have everything together

    Ma Rk                     7:49pm Aug 18

** by the way emmy…. my statements regarding my ” moronic bad habit of thinking ” isnt implying that no one else thinks except me, in fact you probably have your thoughts in a better perspective that me. I am highly critical and was taught as a child to question EVERYTHING I hear…..so hopefully u dont feel hurt my that childish statement of mine 🙂

    Ma Rk                     7:55pm Aug 18

here u go emmy……just so u know who I was quoting ( the quote comes at 04.00 mins )

    Ma Rk                     8:03pm Aug 18

I still stand behind the ground principles of WikiLeaks as laid out by its founders and this wont change, I just can’t get behind this cult figure anymore and refuse to take part in mass hypnosis or being influenced and manipulated by Assange.

    Ma Rk                     8:11pm Aug 18

    emmy 🙂

    Mod?       9:57pm Aug 18

If you can’t get along with Jaraparilla, it’s best to just ignore him. He’s polarizing on occasion, so it might be better just to ignore his @mentions. Whatever you do, don’t block him.

    Ma Rk                     10:01pm Aug 18

no one has been blocked 🙂

    Mod?       10:01pm Aug 18

Your interactions with him get broadcast to >everyone< who follows you both, and this can drive other people away. When people are bickering, I frequently unfollow one side just because it’s annoying. 😛

    Ma Rk                     10:07pm Aug 18

yes…well I would hardly call this bickering. I am also not aware that there was ” fighting ” but just an exchange of opinions, mine being different than his. I think this is all well within reason. The minute I / we aren’t allowed to say what we think will be te day I close the damn forum :-/

    Ma Rk                     10:09pm Aug 18

having said this, I’m nit really too fussed about what others think, especially not within amongst zombies 😉

    Mod?       10:09pm Aug 18

Well, I wasn’t trying to belittle it or anything. It’s just a thing. In a “corporate” account (you know what I mean) sometimes opinions are important, sometimes peace is important. Delicate balance.

    Mod?       10:09pm Aug 18

    On a lighter note, Y U NO FOLLOW ME? ;-D @*******

    Ma Rk                     10:10pm Aug 18

    ohhh —-coming up 🙂

    Mod?       10:13pm Aug 18

Hehe 😀 How do you like the background, btw? It’s supposed to be evocative of WL without just being the hourglass

    Ma Rk                     10:14pm Aug 18

its actually quite awesome, although I cant make any connection to WL, but hey !!………….

    Mod?       10:15pm Aug 18

    Yeah, I think they look more like little pearl onions ^_^;;

      • Jerri Barney From reading the blog it reminds me of sites like “FactCheck.org” and such. Those are “teams” of people- staff of an org- not just one person. I don’t think any one person should be handing down judgments on such complex controversial issues- no one person can be completely objective.

      • Ma Rk I dont see any fight. But I do hate it when ppl try to influence others by calling everything and everyone a ” troll ” for not agreeing on certain subjects. I think wikileaks supportes will suffer ont he whole if we aren ready to be tolerant and let everyone speak his/her mind without insulting them and I found Jaraparrila the most intolerant person I have ever met.

nothing has canged emmy.I dont have a personal account , but even if I did, I would use my real name and the result would be the same. I can only speak for myself, but as a WikiLeaks supporter I dont like being dictated in regards to what

I am allowed to say or do. I don’t want to belong to a group that blindly rolls over wen told to.As I stated, this is only my own opinion and at the same time it is everyones right to voice their own views in a contructive way. Abusing those who dont agree with the WikiLeaks idea or our own philosophy is counter productive and intolerant and once again I would like to point to our own ( forum ) mission statement:”Our aim is to create an open space for people to share their thoughts and ideas on Wikileaks and other topics. The Wikileaks Forum is an opportunity for its users to stay informed on the progress and actions of the organization and to show their support. The forum stands for the values Wikileaks has defended since its creation, such as freedom of speech and information. Those values are the founding principles of this forum and define the rules we have set and ask the users to respect.Wikileaks believes freedom of speech and freedom of information are paths toward improving the world we live in and those should in no way be used as a pretext for racism, religious vilification, homophobia or any form of hatred. Wikileaks aims at bringing transparency through the leaking of secret documents from governments, institutions and private companies. It does not stand as pro or against any government, institution or private company. While using this forum we ask you to respect those values. Users come from all over the world and have different backgrounds. We encourage constructive dialogues: this is not the place to express hatred and personal resentment. When posting always make sure that your words cannot be perceived as harmful or insulting to individuals. Criticisms have to be addressed to policies, defined actions or governments and not to a country, a population or a culture. Keep in mind when writing that someone across the border, from another religion or another ethnicity will read it.These are the guidelines I set myself and he forum and it is these guideline I hope everyone will share.

      • Jerri Barney I think we can all agree that WikiLeaks gets no benefit from being surrounded by nonobjective supporters. What they are trying to do is very hard and they have huge powerful enemies. Another saying that applies here- “Hurt me with the truth- don’t please me with a lie” and WikiLeaks should be looking for people that will tell it to them straight and not placate them with blind praise and admiration.

  • In 2010 I became aware of WikiLeaks through the release of the video Collateral Murder as mother of two children,  focused on family responsibilities News, Politics & Current Affairs had become a background noise in my life but this release brought back like a flash my feelings of opposition to the war in Iraq shared in the UK with so many at the time of the invasion. Archbishop Rowan Williams was at the time the only person of authority within the highest enchalons of the British Establishment to condemn it and condemn it consistently to the present day. All other powerful voices disappeared with time and the crowds who protested disappeared too. The Collateral Murder video released by WikiLeaks brought it all back to the forefront. But still for me at the time everyday life had it’s own demands and my attention was soon fully absorbed into my family life.

Then in Autumn 2010 Julian Assange the Editor in Chief of WikiLeaks    handed himself in to the UK police in response to a European Arrest Warrant issued on the request of the Swedish Authorities about allegations made against him of sexual misconduct. The nature of the allegations made against him, the extraordinary issue of an EAW without him being charged but only wanted for questioning, and the media frenzy over his arrest and attention to his person I could hardly ignore. It made me curious as to the motivations behind such extraordinary treatment by the authorities.  The timing of his arrest was also at least remarkable. Julian Assange’s organisation WikiLeaks was working on the release of major revelations about how a Superpower conducted itself while waging War in Iraq and Afghanistan, and more was to come.  During Autumn and whilst his personal freedom was curtailed WikiLeaks launched what was going to be major publishing events to shake the political skyline of the West. All this compelled me to look into detail at what was the case against him as well as what WikiLeaks was releasing. From the facts of the case, articles, witness statements I realised that this case was being used to persecute him for his publishing work.  Then I read his theory of Conspiracies and went onto google and youtube in search for the WikiLeaks theory and practice.

I realised that their publishing work: The War Diaries: Afghanistan and Iraq War Logs as well as Cablegate, The Guantanamo Files to name but a few will remain in history as the most influencial documents in 21st century due to their timely release and relevance to present events in political, military and diplomatic life mainly in the West (US/Europe) and its sphere of influence in the Middle East Africa and Asia. So instead of burying documented history for some archeologists and historians of the future to discover in fragments 60 years after the events, letting their particular lense and bias present to society of the future a scetchy and incomplete understanding of what they choose to record as “historic events”, WikiLeaks the publisher burst open the Archives in the present and revealed the throbbing pulse of military, diplomatic, and intelligence events as created and presented by our world’s one and only superpower. No more historic analysis in retrospect by hunting for sources through dusty volumes and elderly witnesses. Historic analysis for the here and now, revelations that affect the course of history in their impact.

Since then I have started a journey in support of WikiLeaks and Julian Assange in my small everyday way, and here is a partial record of this journey of learning.

  • When time has passed and you are old

With no regret these times you’ll know

That you have walked and left your prints

The world all over won’t a miss

You have enough to carry on

We hold your hand and won’t let go

Take courage now and view your path

    plan, dream, take steps, laugh

May sunshine find you where you are

and beam sweet laughter in your heart.
